Propane Tank Tracker
Log Levels, Track Usage, Stay Ahead of Refills
PropanePal is the first software-only propane tank tracker for iPhone. Log your gauge reading, see how fast you're using propane, and know exactly when to call your supplier — without any hardware sensor.
Gauge logging
Log Your Tank Level in Seconds
Every time you check your propane tank, open PropanePal and log the current gauge reading as a percentage. The app timestamps it automatically and adds it to your tank's history. There's no complicated setup — just enter the number you see on the gauge and you're done.
PropanePal supports five ways to enter a reading: gauge percentage, gallons, pounds, weight-based calculation for cylinders, and a Quick Mode where you just tap Full, Half, Low, or Empty. Whatever works for your tank and your routine.
- Enter gauge readings as a percentage, gallons, or pounds
- Quick Mode: tap Full, Half, Low, or Empty — no math required
- Every reading is automatically timestamped
- Supports ASME home tanks and portable DOT cylinders
Usage tracking
See How Fast You're Using Propane
After a few readings, PropanePal calculates your daily propane usage rate and uses it to predict when your tank will reach your reorder threshold. You don't have to estimate — the app figures it out from your actual readings over time.
The prediction engine factors in your fill history, adjusts for seasons if your usage changes, and assigns a confidence level (High, Medium, Low) so you always know how much to trust the estimate. High confidence means recent, consistent data. Low confidence means you should go check the gauge manually.
- Calculates daily usage rate from your reading history
- Projects your reorder date based on a configurable threshold
- Confidence badge: High / Medium / Low / Unknown
- Flags inconsistent readings automatically
Multiple tanks
Track Every Tank You Own — All in One Place
Many people use propane in more than one place: a home heating tank, a grill cylinder, a cabin tank, a generator, or an RV. PropanePal lets you add all of them and track each one independently with its own readings, predictions, and history.
Each tank gets its own dashboard card showing the current level, days until reorder, and status badge. Switch between tanks instantly. You never have to guess which tank is running low or which property needs a delivery scheduled.
- Free tier: one tank. Premium: unlimited tanks
- Each tank has independent readings, fills, and predictions
- Mix large ASME tanks and small portable DOT cylinders
- Assign a name and location to each tank
Reorder reminders
Get a Reminder Before You Run Out
Running out of propane mid-winter isn't just inconvenient — if your tank runs completely empty, most suppliers require a pressure test and inspection before refilling, which can delay your delivery by days. PropanePal helps you stay ahead of that by tracking your usage and alerting you when it's time to schedule a delivery.
The default reorder threshold is 30%, which matches industry guidance from major propane suppliers. You can adjust this per tank to fit your specific situation — for example, setting a higher threshold for a remote cabin where delivery takes extra lead time.
- Configurable reorder threshold per tank (default: 30%)
- Adjustable lead time buffer for delivery scheduling
- Status badges: Safe / Watch / Order Soon / Critical
- Works completely offline — no internet required
FAQ
Common questions about propane tank tracking
How does PropanePal track my propane tank level?
PropanePal tracks your tank level by letting you log the gauge reading on your tank. Each time you check your gauge, you enter the current percentage into the app. Over time, PropanePal builds a reading history and calculates your daily usage rate, which it uses to predict when you will need to reorder.
Do I need a sensor or hardware to use PropanePal?
No. PropanePal is software-only. You log readings yourself by looking at your tank's gauge and entering the number in the app. No sensor, no Bluetooth device, no WiFi gateway, and no additional hardware is required or available.
How often should I log my propane gauge reading?
Weekly readings give you the most accurate usage rate and predictions. Bi-weekly (every two weeks) still works well. The app shows a warning badge if readings go stale past 30 days, and the prediction confidence degrades so you know when the estimate may be less accurate.
Can I track multiple propane tanks?
Yes. The free tier supports tracking one tank. With a Premium subscription, you can track unlimited tanks and cylinders simultaneously — each with independent readings, predictions, and history. Mix large home heating tanks with small portable grill cylinders.
What propane tank sizes does PropanePal work with?
PropanePal works with any size propane tank: 20 lb and 30 lb portable DOT cylinders, 100-gallon, 250-gallon, 500-gallon, 750-gallon, and 1,000-gallon ASME tanks. You enter the tank capacity when you set it up, and the app calculates gallons remaining from your gauge percentage.
Does PropanePal replace a hardware propane monitor?
PropanePal is a software alternative to hardware propane monitors. Hardware monitors (like Mopeka or Otodata) read your tank level automatically via a sensor. PropanePal reads your tank through the readings you log. PropanePal costs nothing to install and works on any tank; hardware monitors cost $100–$400 per device and require installation. For most homeowners, cabin owners, and RV users, PropanePal is the simpler and more affordable approach.
